Katie Rodriguez Banister - Ms. Wheelchair Missouri 2010

In 1990, Katie Rodriguez Banister survived an auto accident that left her a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the chest down. After six months of rehabilitation and 15 months residing with her parents, she returned to living independently in 1992.

Katie worked as the Access Coordinator for the city of Webster Groves, Missouri, for five years. Prior to her accident, she was a latch-key director, a sales representative, a customer support representative, and social director. Katie and her husband Steve co-founded Access-4-All in 1997 with a mission to educate and empower others through their publications, motivational speaking and disability education programs.

A person who gives back to her community, Katie has been a member of the Recreation Council of the Greater St. Louis Board of Directors since 1992, and a member of the Access Board with the St. Louis Community Colleges. Katie was also a board member and president of the Delta Center for Independent Living, and a board member of the VSA Arts of Missouri. Katie was a performer and founding member of St. Louis' "DisAbility Project."

Katie's honors include Ms. Wheelchair Missouri 2010, a 2001 St. Louis Woman of Achievement; Missouri Jaycees 1998 Ten Outstanding Young Missourians; St. Louis Jaycees Jr. Chamber of Commerce 1995 Ten Outstanding Young St. Louisans; Missouri Governor's Council on Disability 1993 Advocate of the Year; Central Missouri State University Outstanding Freshman in the Department of Recreation 1983Ð84; and Kirkwood, Missouri 1982 Junior Miss.
