I am a young father who has a little girl in a wheelchair. As you undoubtedly know, there are challenges that come with having a loved one in a chair. I think it is important to outline the true impact that having a vehicle like this will have on your life. Before we received the most beautiful vehicle we had ever owned, we drove around in a 96 Dodge Caravan with over 300,000 miles on it. Not only was this vehicle old and prone to breaking down, but it was designed for those who could walk. This presented a daunting task every time we left our home. Not only did we have to pick up our 40 pound child to place her in her car seat, but we also had to lift a 60 pound wheelchair into our van. As you can tell by our picture, my wife, who only weighs about 100 pounds was primarily responsible for taking Alyssa to therapies and appointments during the week. This was a physical strain that often times turned into mental anguish. I can’t tell you how many times we decided not to go somewhere because the labor was simply too much. Our van finally broke down for the last time. During this period there was a high level of anxiety and frustration because we needed a vehicle that could haul our family around without the painstaking labor of physically moving a child and a wheelchair every time we wanted to leave.
Fortunately for us, we were directed to United Access. These guys are absolutely terrific. It’s one thing to hear people talk the talk, but it’s something completely different when people walk the walk. There is no question in my mind that United Access does everything they can to help those who need help the most. I have to say that I was so impressed with their staff and with the quality of the vehicles that they sell. What most impresses me about United Access is that they hire the very same type of people that they serve, that is, wheelchair users. When you visit a United Access store you can tell there is real passion and a buzz in the air for their mission and how critical it is for them to do their best. Please look at this vehicle as a blessing a real opportunity to provide emotional calm to what can be a chaotic situation. My family is extremely happy with our new van - it has changed our lives in ways that words could never describe.
