Sanitation and Social Distancing

Our teams are working hard to keep our stores safe and sanitized for you. We are cleaning high-traffic, high-touch areas, like waiting areas and entry and exit points, every day. We’re also working to help you maintain proper social distancing.

Practicing Good Hygiene for Health and Safety

We continue to advise employees on best practices for maintaining good health. To help protect yourself, we recommend staying home when you’re sick, including if you’re experiencing fever. Avoid close contact with people who are sick, and practice social distancing by staying at least six feet apart from anyone else. Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and be sure to avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. Cover your nose and/or mouth when you sneeze or cough, and be sure to cough into your elbow or a tissue. Clean and disinfect frequently touched services daily. Again, we are so appreciative of the work our employees are doing to continue serving customers.

Tips for keeping your wheelchair van dependable while keeping yourself safe

Keeping your wheelchair van and mobility equipment dependable, especially for those who work at “essential” businesses and need to commute, is on the top of most people’s lists.

People in many parts of the country have been advised to stay home, and everyone should follow that advice and practice social distancing as much as possible. However, there are many basic care tasks that can be performed in your driveway, safely at home. Watch this short video, from our partners at BraunAbility, as they take you through a few simple steps that you can take to keep you safe. They’ll cover inspecting certain equipment such as:

  • The door track in your wheelchair van
  • The wheelchair ramp hinges
  • The door rollers in your wheelchair van
  • The battery
  • Tire pressure and wear
  • Tie-Down tracks

If you have a true mechanical problem and/or your check-engine light is on, you should make an appointment immediately with your local United Access dealership.

Wash Your Car

Maintaining a clean exterior is a good way to protect the paint on your wheelchair accessible vehicle. This can easily taken care of at a drive-through car wash; just be sure to use hand sanitizer or wash your hands after using the keypad.

If you haven’t washed the car since winter, spend a little extra for an undercarriage spray to remove salt and road grime. You should do this once a season.

Touchless car washes are safer on the finish, but they often don’t clean as well. Experts advise that modern paint can withstand scrub brushes, but be wary of brushes or cloths that are dirty.

Hand-washing your vehicle is the safest choice, but often not the most practical. If you are going to hand wash your wheelchair van, try using a dedicated car wash soap and sponge or mitt. Wash your vehicle in the shade, one section at a time, starting with the top surfaces and working down. Be sure to use a separate sponge for the wheels and tires to avoid transferring sand, brake dust, and other debris that can mar the finish.
